Monetary unit of Democratic Republic Somalia is the shilling which consists of 100 cents. In the cash circulation there are coins in nominal value 5, 10, 25, 50 cents and 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 shillings.

In a turn-over there are coins of various modifications (depending on a year of issue), thus all versions of denominations are a lawful legal tender in territory of this East African country.

The Obverse of a coin in nominal value of 5 cents is decorated by the plotting of the State Emblem of Somalia and an inscription JAMHURIYADA DIMOQRAADIGA SOOMAALIYA, on a reverse the corn cop, ears of wheat and oranges are represented. The similar design of an obverse is characteristic also for coins of other Cent nominal values and for 1 shilling, coins in nominal value of 50 cents have a similar reverse. On the back coins of denomination of 10 cents the lamb is represented, its plotting is seated on a coin reverse in 1 shilling. On an obverse of a coin of denomination of 5 shillings the State Emblem of Somalia and an inscription REPUBLIC OF SOMALIA is represented, the same decor face sides of coins in nominal values 10 have, 25, 50 and 100 shillings. On a reverse of 5 shillings the plotting of a going elephant is seated, on 10 shillings the camel is represented and the inscription XXI CENTURY FOOD SECURITY is seated, the reverse of 50 shillings contains the plotting of a monkey. The reverse of a coin in nominal value of 100 shillings is decorated by the plotting of queen Sheby and a corresponding inscription QUEEN OF SHEBA.
