Modern monetary unit of Kazakhstan is tenge which is equal 100 tiyin. In circulation there are coins in nominal value 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 tenges.

Kazakhstan was one of the last CIS countries manufactured the native currency. In 1991 Mendybaj Alinas, Timur Sulejmenov's designers, Agimsaly Duzelhanov and Hajrulla Gabzhalilov were aggregated in "special group" for working out of the plotting of new notes. On November, 12th, 1993 the Decree of the President of Republic Kazakhstan "About introduction of the native currency of Republic Kazakhstan" has been published. On November, 15th it is marked as "Day of the native currency of Republic Kazakhstan" since this number of tenge has been entered into the circulation. The first coins were minted in Germany.

In 1993 coins have been entered into the circulation of denomination 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 tiyins, 1, 5, 10 and 20 tenges. In a consequence, coins in a tiyin have been introduced from a turn-over. 50 tenges have been entered in 1997, 100 tenges into 2002 and 2 tenges in 2005.

Memorable coins are manufactured by dignity in 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 2500, 5000 and 10000 tenges. Investment coins exist in nominal value in 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 tenges.
