National monetary unit of Nepal is the rupee which is equal to 100 paisas. In circulation there are coins of denomination of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 paisas, 1, 2, 5, and 10 rupees.

The Rupee of Nepal has been entered in 1932, having replaced a silver mohar at a rate of 2 mohars=1 rupee. Cost of Nepalese rupee has been adhered to Indian rupee in 1933 at a rate of 1,6 Nepalese rupees=1 Indian rupee.

In 1932, there were silver coins 20, 50 paisas and 1 rupee, and then copper 1, 2 and 5 paisas between 1933 and 1935 years. In the forties the XX-th centuries have been manufactured copper 1/4 both 1/2 paisas and nickel-brass of 5 paisas. In 1953 brass 1, 2 and 4 paisas, bronze 5 and 10 paisas, and also coins were entered into the circulation from a Copper-Nickel 20, 25 and 50 paisas and 1 rupee.

In 1966 aluminium coins 1, 2 both 5 paisas and brass 10 paisas were manufactured. Aluminium 25 paisas have been entered in 1982 then in 1987-88 issue of coins from stainless steel of 50 paisas and 1 rupee has begun. In 1994 there was a new series of coins in nominal values: 10 and 25 paisas, aluminium 50 paisas and from a steel the covered brass 1, 2, 5 and 10 rupees.
