Metal rupees and cents - modern coins of Sri Lanka (Ceylon)

National monetary unit Republics Sri Lankas (Ceylon) is the rupee which is equal to 100 cents. In circulation there are coins of denomination of 25, 50 cents and 1, 2, 5, 10 rupees.

Local coins have the various form. So, round, square coins, and also coins in the form of a nine-final star are manufactured. Metal from which mint coins, too can be diverse: a steel, a brass, copper, nickel.

On face side of the coins manufactured since 1963 the Stamp flag of Sri Lanka is presented. On the back coins - cost in figures and on Singhalese, Thamil and English languages, as year of issue in bottom and an inscription Sri Lanka in Singhalese language under a fillet. On December, 14th, 2005, the Central bank of Sri Lanka has manufactured a new series of coins of denomination in 25 and 50 cents, 1, 2 and 5 rupees. Manufactured before a coin 1, 2, 5 and 10 cents though are a lawful legal tender, almost are completely introduced from the circulation.

On April, 5th, 2010 in Sri Lanka have replaced the note of 10 rupees with a coin face value.
