Monetary unit of Commonwealth of the Bahamas is the dollar which is equal to 100 cents. In the cash circulation there are coins of denomination 1, 5, 10, 15, 25, 50 cents and 1 dollar.
In 1966 in territory of the Bahamas coins of denomination 1, 5, 10, 15, 25, 50 cents and 1 dollar have been entered. The coin 1 cent was executed from nickel covered with a brass, coins 5, 10, and 15 cents from a Copper-Nickel, a coin of 25 cents from nickel, and coins of 50 cents and 1 dollar from silver. The coin of 10 cents had the stylised form of a cavity, and 15 Cent coins were square. Silver coins after 1966 were not manufactured. In a coin 1 cents, at first bronze has replaced nickel covered with a brass in 1970, then the material has been changed to a brass in 1974 and a copper-zinc alloy in 1985. In 1989 in the circulation Copper-Nickel coins 1 dollar and 50 cents have been manufactured.
Coins Circulating at present 1, 5, 25 cents of the same sizes as their American colleagues, but with other metal compositions. Coins of 15 cents are still manufactured by Central bank, but routinely are not used any more. All coins have now the Arms of the Bahamas on one party with words "Commonwealth of the Bahamas" and a date of issue. On reverses of coins are represented: 1 cent - a starfish, 5 cents - pineapple, 10 cents - two fishes, 15 cents - a hibiscus, and the boat on 25 cents.
