Monetary unit of the Cayman islands is the dollar which is equal to 100 cents. In the cash circulation there are coins in nominal value 1, 5, 10, 25 cents.

The Dollar of the Cayman islands has been entered in 1972, having replaced face value the Jamaican dollar. The currency of Jamaica and new token moneys of the Cayman islands simultaneously served as a lawful legal tender till August, 1st, 1972 then the Jamaican dollars have officially introduced from the circulation. Since April, 1st, 1974 the dollar of the Cayman islands has been adhered to US dollar on a parity 1=1,2.

In 1972 of denomination coins have been entered into 1, 5, 10 and 25 cents. The coin 1 cent has been executed from bronze, other nominal values from a Copper-Nickel. In 1992, bronze has been replaced with a copper-plated steel, and a Copper-Nickel on a Nickel-plated steel.
