Peso oro (gold) has been entered in Dominican republic in 1937 and acted on a level with US dollar. The US dollar had lawful payment force and continued to be used along with peso oro till 1947.

Coins have been entered in 1937 in nominal value into 1, 5, 10, 25 centavo and 1/2 peso with a small amount of coins 1 peso for the first time rapped out in 1939. The complete name of currency never occurbed on coins, only "peso". Ordinary metal has replaced silver of the maximum dignities in 1967.
