the American Indian

Indians , routinely name inhabitants Americas since Columbus, though politically correct term for them - «radical Americans». Considering that it bends around the Earth, Christopher Columbus expected to find coast of India or East Asia, floating on the West from Spain. The first plot of a land opened by it - one of the Bahamas, should be a part of India (in Columbus's understanding), and it has named inhabitants Indians. This name began to be applied subsequently to all people of the next islands and continent.

Radical Americans once occupied the United States from coast to coast. In manners, customs, and the general features distinction between Hindus of Gulf States and Indians of coast of Northern Lakes hardly considerably; only languages they can be grouped in different families. To the east from Mississipi was no more than eight considerably excellent languages four of which are still existing while others have disappeared.

The Skin of Indians, as a rule, dark krasnovato-brown as cinnamon, colours, at them long, black and a straight hair, outstanding cheekbones, wide persons, eyes are penetrating planted, complete lips and roundish, wide noses, a poor beard; their growth about same, as well as at other races of the same width. Their hands and a foot are small, the skin is more thin, more softly and more smoothly, than at Europeans; a look of the man often noble, and many women are beautiful. Haughty in behaviour, silent, stoical, artful, persevering, courageous and severe in the war, severe in relation to enemies and loyal friends, are grateful for services, are hospitable and kind. Tribes of the south of California always differed significant intellectual development.

There is a few positive knowledge of an origin of these American aboriginals, their own traditions widely vary. Recent researches have put forward the theory that, Indians not aboriginals of America, they have come from two great Asian families: northern tribes of the American continent from Mongols who have crossed Bering strait and southern tribes, from California, Central and the South America, from dark Malayans who occupied Polynesia in a southern part of Pacific ocean and, at last, have reached the American continent, by degrees propagating on it from Silent to Atlantic ocean. Language does not coincide with one of Asian, but traditions, and a way of life of Indians indicate such relations. The assumption has been come out that Indians of tribes Mandans and Chinooks, which almost white, are descendants of a colony of the Vikings lost in a jungle of the North America 700 years ago.
